she's a goddess
[attr="class","itdscroll"]The sun was hanging low in the sky, its light barricaded by the ceiling of evergreens braided above Darkthorn's head. The she-cat glanced up, tail waving behind her as she padded along, paw steps silent on the forest floor. She could barely see the stars through the thick branches; her gaze fell to the floor instead where pine needles laid thick beneath her paws. As Darkthorn slowed down, eyes skittering about the browning pine needles, she noted a glossy black beetle trundling out from a hole between her paws. The slender she-cat came to a halt, dim light cascading over her tortoiseshell pelt, and watched the beetle make its slow precarious way along the pine needle carpet beneath her toes. She waved her tail, eyed it, and unsheathed her claws, lifting one paw to gently nudge the black beetle along with one extended claw. In a panic, the little creature scuttled away, wings appearing from beneath its shell as if to scare away the intruding weapon, but Darkthorn only leaned further over the frantic insect. For a moment, the slender she-cat considered squishing it. She had memories, far-gone memories of chasing down bugs with Tangledfoot, the two of them more often landing on each other's tails rather than the hapless insects they were "hunting".
Remembering their fumbling kitten attempts, Darkthorn withdrew, sheathing her claws, and watched the bug rattle away, hind end buzzing dangerously, as though warning her that it would take flight at any sign of renewed aggression. Amused, Darkthorn stepped over the black thing and went on her way, tail now waving up above her, end curling and whipping lazily, as she surveyed her surroundings. The sun was beginning to fall, signalling dusk and evening approaching, but Darkthorn wasn't ready to head back to camp yet. She hadn't been assigned to any patrols yet today, so her goal was to find a warm squirrel or two to take back to camp. Darkthorn was as fond of frogs as any Shadowclanner would be, but sometimes the warm furry creatures were just as delectable. Thanks to Thunderclan owning most of the warmer parts of the forest, this was the only part of Shadowclan territory where squirrels ran free, so Darkthorn slipped among the trees, feet falling ever silently on the cushioned forest floor, looking for one of the less-slippery mammals to track down and bring back to camp. Unfortunately, before she could get too far, the she-cat's eyes fell upon another mammal entirely, the sleek form of Onyxfeather, fellow Shadowclanner. As always, her scar itched as she was abruptly reminded of its presence, curving over her eye towards her ear and at the other end her cheekbone.
Darkthorn, of course, was no coward. She called out, "Greetings, Onyxfeather! How goes your hunt?" And she approached him, ears pricked curiously.
